Who We Are

The Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Price, Utah, is one of the oldest Orthodox parishes in America. It was founded by Greek miners and shepherds at the beginning of the 20th century. Today the congregation includes Orthodox Christians of Greek descent along with life-long Orthodox from other ethnic backgrounds, and converts to the Orthodox Christian faith from many faith backgrounds and no previous Christian faith.

Our parish is well known in Carbon County for its Greek Festival and for the prominent role of many members of the parish in local businesses, charities and government. The distinctive temple is listed as an historic site and is a landmark in our city. The history of the congregation is interesting not only to local Orthodox Christians but also because it figured prominently in the histories of Price City, Helper, Carbon County and the surrounding area.

As Orthodox Christians, we strive to bear an effective witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ as expressed in the apostolic tradition and worship of the Greek Orthodox church, but receiving all persons without judgment and working together with the wider community for the betterment of our town and our area.

We invite you to join us in the ancient, historic way of Christian worship and spiritual life! Visitors are always welcome, both for the Divine services, typicons and also for refreshments and conversation that follow.
